In the second of our Meet Your BDM interviews, we’re catching up with David Kingham. Having joined the business as a Business Relationship Manager in 2019, he moved into underwriting before being appointed as a BDM earlier this year. While many of you will know him already, this is your chance to find out more.
You were recently promoted to BDM after nearly four years as an underwriter, how have you found the move?
It’s been quite seamless because I’ve worked in the industry for six years already and made some great relationships along the way as an underwriter, but more so as a roving underwriter. I’ve massively enjoyed going back onto the broker side of the transaction but also going back to my roots as I started as a BRM in MT Finance nearly six years ago.
And what do you most enjoy about your new role?
Going out and meeting new brokers and making new relationships. I’m a real people person so it’s great to be able to use my interpersonal skills. And to start in the summer when the pub gardens were open was a bonus!
What does your typical day look like?
No two days are ever the same. I’m kind of pulled from pillar to post a lot sometimes. It’s not your standard 9-5 and you’re effectively working 24/7. You may be required to be halfway across the country at 9.30am or staying out late after an event but our focus is always on meeting as many people as possible to build and maintain those relationships.

I feel my experience with being a senior underwriter at MT Finance allows me to look at the transaction from both perspectives which includes underwriting a transaction but also getting the deal done as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Not only this but as I started in the sales team this role is bringing back some of the skills I learnt at the beginning of my time here such as developing strong communication skills and having an in-depth understanding of brokers’ needs.

I entered the HYROX Fitness Race in Belgium alongside our Managing Director MD Gareth Lewis.
